Talk to our team

Classify My Soil is a brokerage service for hazardous soils. We review your report, identify treatment or disposal options that suit the material, and coordinate haulage where you need it. Three things stay separate, and we keep them that way:

Assessment

Report review and indicative screen

We read your site investigation report or lab certificates and run an indicative WM3 screen on every sample. A competent chemist reviews it before it reaches you. It is an indication, not a waste classification; the producer's duty to classify stays with the producer.

Brokerage

Treatment and disposal routes

For material that screens hazardous, we identify suitable permitted facilities and give you a priced route. Every facility we quote has been checked by us: permit, permitted codes and acceptance criteria. Permits and carrier details are provided on acceptance of the quote.

Facility acceptance

The receiving site decides

Acceptance of any load is the receiving facility's decision, made against its own permit and acceptance criteria once the material has been characterised to its requirements. We do not promise acceptance before that happens, and we say so on every output.

What the screen looks like

Indicative — not a classification

The free screening reads your site investigation report or lab certificates and gives one line per sample, then the things we could not assess from your data. Screening is free; treatment, disposal and haulage are quoted. Illustrative layout; codes shown are examples.

  • Every sample gets an indicative result: hazardous or non-hazardous, EWC code, HP codes and the flags a person should check.
  • Reviewed by a competent chemist, as the Environment Agency expects, before anything is sent.
  • Untested substances are never treated as absent. Gaps are flagged, not hidden.
  • Anything that screens hazardous comes back with a priced route to a permitted facility we have checked.

Flags needing a human look

  • Asbestos not analysed on 2 of 3 samples
  • Chromium (VI) not analysed — treated as potentially present
  • TPH banding present, hydrocarbon marker pending

What you receive

  • Waste Classification Summary (PDF)
  • WM3 Assessment Record (Excel), every value referenced to a certificate page
  • Priced treatment or disposal route for hazardous material, at a permitted facility we have checked
  • For non-hazardous samples: a plain statement that inert status needs WAC testing, which the screen cannot assess

What this is, and what it is not

Plain words, because your duty of care depends on them.

The free screening is an indicative assessment produced from the laboratory data you supply, following WM3 (1st Edition v1.2.GB). It is not a waste classification and does not transfer the waste producer's duty to classify. Acceptance at any facility is a separate decision for that facility. Untested substances are treated as potentially present. Inert status and landfill acceptance need WAC testing, which the screening does not assess, and we do not price non-hazardous disposal. Every output records the competent chemist who reviewed it and the engine version that produced it.

About us & contact

About us

Classify My Soil is a service of Hazardous Waste Management Ltd, part of HWM Group, a UK hazardous waste remediation and civils contractor. We classify soil every day because we move it, treat it and take responsibility for where it ends up. The screen is the same assessment we run for our own quotes, opened up so you can plan before you commit.

HWM operates its own permitted treatment facility in Hampshire. Classify My Soil is wider than that: a brokerage service that identifies the right permitted route for your material anywhere in the UK, which may or may not be an HWM site.

Discuss your project or talk to our team using either of the above. Office hours Monday to Friday.
